Lorna's Story

"Each day I come to work and get to see autistic people progress and achieve their goals"

Registered Manager, Lorna Gillen, has been a vital part of the Autism Initiatives team in Northern Ireland for seven years.  Our support teams are filled with talented people and Lorna is no exception, we asked her to tell us more about her role:

Lorna said: “I am a Registered Manager in one of Autism Initiatives’ supported living services in Cookstown after starting as a Senior Support Worker in one of our Armagh services. I left my teaching career to pursue something different and I was looking for something that would allow me to have a work-life balance, whilst continuing to feel like I was making a positive difference to people’s lives. I have been able to do both of these through working with Autism Initiatives.”

“Each day I come to work and get to see the people we support make progress and achieve their goals. I feel privileged and go home each day with a sense of pride, knowing that I have contributed to something meaningful and supported another person to live more independently, achieve new things and rise to new challenges. The team of people I work with are absolutely fantastic and I have met some wonderful colleagues and friends through working for Autism Initiatives and I look forward to meeting some more!”
