Introduction
An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Data Protection to join our team as the senior professional lead for the development and delivery of an effective information governance strategy across the Autism Initiatives Group.
About the role
Reporting directly to the Corporate Director, you will provide strategic leadership on the organisation’s information governance function, providing specialist advice, guidance and support to the SIRO, boards, sub-committees, managers, in all aspects of information governance and information security and the associated legislation.
You will utilise your extensive knowledge and establish and maintain a comprehensive Governance Risk Register and create reports to the highest level of management on the performance of the organisation on the KPIs and the risks and mitigation measures. You will lead on responses and reporting around data breaches or security incidents and manage the data breach reporting and response processes.
As Head of Data Protection, you will undertake audits and spot checks on a range of locations to assess compliance and encourage good practices. As part of the role, you will work collaboratively with departments across the organisation to ensure that excellence in information governance becomes culturally embedded in the organisation.
Skills and experience required:
Applicants will have recent and extensive experience of working in a similar role and will have demonstratable knowledge of key data protection and information governance legislation, regulation, good practice and commissioner requirements. Applicants must possess a degree or post graduate qualification in Information Governance, Records Management, Law or related discipline or have at least five years demonstrable experience in a similar role within the past seven years* and attained the ISEB Certificate in Information Security Management or equivalent, and/or the BCS Data Protection Practitioner Certificate or equivalent.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills and possess strong analytical and investigative skills. You must be able to use relevant IT and databases to analyse and interpret data and report at a senior management level on information gathered to continually develop and enhance our service provision.

This role will include travelling to the organisation’s various locations across all regions for training delivery, on-site audits and meetings.
